In a world where apps sell location data and AI providers train with user queries, an honest stance on data is a differentiating factor. Here is what we promise, and why we mean it exactly as it stands.
What you will not find on rundum.dog
When you open this page, your browser does not load tracking scripts from third-party ad networks. No Facebook Pixel, no Hotjar, no retargeting, no linking of your session with advertising IDs. Anyone reading on rundum.dog is not turned into a persona for ad networks and not into a profile for third parties.
What we measure, we do transparently: We use Google Analytics and Bing Webmaster Tools, but anonymised. Your IP address is truncated before it is stored anywhere. We see which content interests our readers, which search queries bring you to us, and where we can improve the platform; we do not see who you are. We do not sell this data, we do not link it with ad networks, we do not build person profiles.
For businesses listed with us, a second count runs on our own server. We count per entry and per day how often a profile was viewed and how often someone clicked on the website or phone number. Nothing else is in this table: no IP address, no time, no account, no cookie. A line says “this profile had seven views on this day” and nothing else. Because we lack an identifier, we count events and not people: Anyone opening a profile twice appears there as two views and not as one person who was there twice. We accept this, because an identifier that recognises you again would be the higher price. Each of these numbers has an upper limit per entry and day. It does not prevent someone from inflating a number, but it limits how far, and where a number is at this limit, it shows a cap and not a measurement. We do not count clicks on emergency numbers. After 400 days, we delete the numbers.
We do not sell owner data. No address sales, no profile exchanges with insurance companies, no email list sharing with food providers. What you enter into your account stays between you and us, and we keep the circle of those who have access as small as possible.
We do not train AI with your inputs. What you type into the profile builder, write in missing pet reports, or save as an emergency contact is not training material, neither for our own systems nor for external providers. If we use AI tools for content enrichment (for example, for cartoon descriptions in the magazine archive), we use publicly available content, not account inputs.
What you control on rundum.dog
Your dog profile is private as soon as you create it. No other owner sees it, no search engine crawler indexes it. Only when you explicitly activate the missing status or the memorial status does a defined excerpt become public: photo, name, identifying features, contact option. Each of these publications requires its own confirmation. Accidental activation is not possible.
Newsletters are voluntary and use double opt-in. You can unsubscribe from any email with a single click at any time. We do not send third-party advertising in our newsletters.
You can delete your account at any time. When deleted, all your profile data and dog profiles are removed with it; no shadow database, no residual storage beyond what is legally required.
Three promises, in brief
-
Anonymised reach, no profiles
We use Google Analytics 4 and Bing Webmaster Tools to measure reach and monitor indexing, anonymised with IP truncation. We see which content people find interesting and which searches bring you to us, not who you are. No Facebook Pixel, no Microsoft Clarity, no Hotjar, no behavioural retargeting, no profiling, no links to ad networks.
-
Private profile by default
Your dog profile is private from the moment you create it. It only becomes public if you explicitly switch on the missing status or the memorial status, with a separate confirmation.
-
No data to third parties
We do not sell owner data. We do not train external AI models on your profile entries or owner data. We use AI tools internally for research, schema generation and language clean-up of imported content, never with what you enter in your account. What you store on rundum.dog stays between you and us.
Where our promises have limits
In Switzerland, hosting is provided by Infomaniak, a provider whose data protection and energy balance we have reviewed. Newsletter distribution is handled via Elementor Site Mailer. Both providers have access to technically necessary data (your IP address when visiting pages, your email address for newsletters), but not to your account inputs or your dog profile.
If you access third-party content on the platform, such as an embedded map, a federation link, or a cartoon originally hosted on another platform, the respective data protection terms apply there. We mark such integrations where we notice them and are working to reduce them.
